Letter to Collectors (giclee prints)

Dear Collector-

Although you may already be well aware of the most important considerations in handling and storing gelatin silver photographs, I always like to mention a few points to those purchasing my work, and to answer some frequently asked questions.

General guidelines:

1) store or exhibit the photographs in a cool, dry place
2) handle the prints as little as possible
3) use cotton gloves, and both hands, when picking up a print
4) do not place a print in direct sunlight for any extended period
5) do not mount or frame with non-archival adhesive in contact with the prints

This is a fiber-based archival giclee print. If cared for properly this artwork will maintain its appearance and condition for more than a lifetime - it is rated at 100+ years. Mounting and framing of the prints should be done with extreme care and attention to detail. (Professional framing, or flat portfolio storage with archival paper interleaves is recommended.)

I make my prints with large border areas to: (a) protect the image area from finger prints, handling and other damage, and (b) avoid deterioration of the image due to aging or environmental conditions.

The hand-written notations on the back of the print include the title (usually the model's name and reference i.d.) and the location and year the image was made. I give each print a unique edition number on the back, which we also keep on record. Each print is signed and dated in pencil on the back, and in ink on the lower right front.

These exhibition prints are custom made, one at a time, so there may be some variation in appearance. Your print(s) may seem slightly darker, lighter or somehow different from other prints you own or reproductions you’ve seen in books or on the web. Some variation is to be expected between different kinds of media and between different prints of the same image. Even identical prints may look different under different lighting situations. I suggest you view your print(s) in a bright environment, such as near a window or under an exhibition spotlight or bright desk lamp. (reminder: don’t leave prints in direct sun for long periods) Of course, if you are dissatisfied with the appearance of any print, please contact me immediately and I will make arrangements to replace it. And please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

With best wishes and thanks for your support,

Craig Morey
